An introduction to Social Justice (SJ)

SJ is a South African non-profit organization that was formally registered in 2018 under the NPO Act (NPO 218-845). SJ draws its inspiration and the purpose of its establishment from the founding provisions of the Constitution of South Africa. In particular, the rationale for its operations derives from the Bill of Rights with particular reference to the provisions of equality, human dignity, political rights, and social protection.

In this regard and integral to its core mandate, SJ is broadly concerned with creating positive social change and advancing economic empowerment in disadvantaged communities. This mandate translates into addressing the plight of communities where poverty, violence against women, inequality, and unemployment are rife.

In executing our mandate, the organisation actively engages in collaborative partnerships with a diverse range of organizations, including women’s rights groups, human rights advocates, welfare organizations, faith-based organisations, TVET colleges, and men and youth formations. Through these partnerships, SJ can leverage the collective knowledge, experience, and resources of a wide network of individuals and groups to make a meaningful lasting impact across the country.

Since violence against women and children has become a matter of serious and great concern across the country, developing and making appropriate interventions have become integral to the scope of SJ’s work since its establishment. Consequently, SJ has focused on the demographic profile of women and girls who have been or potentially are victims of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV&F) from disadvantaged communities.
